Book now for free summer activity spaces for eligible children and young people: 5319X Holiday activities - Enews - Feb 2024 - 2-3

Children and young people can once again look forward to a range of free healthy activities throughout the summer holidays.

Organisations across the Island are coming together to offer activities for five to 16-year-olds as part of the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, which also guarantees a nutritious meal.

Free places are available for children and young people who receive benefits-related free school meals and on a paid-for basis as well. Some places are also available for other vulnerable families.

But with limited spaces for many of the activities, families should book soon to avoid disappointment.

The summer programme has a fantastic range of activities on offer including tennis and football coaching, multi-sport games, animal care, theatre skills and arts and crafts.

Many families and children have greatly benefited from attending the HAF. Here is some of the feedback we have received from parents:

“Amazing, children and play in the warm, have fun, make friends and have food.”

“Attending the HAF sessions has made it possible for him to enjoy some activities outside of the home rather than being stuck indoors all day.”

“Just overall great fun and it really helped him stay active and occupied.”

“Playing with new friends and enjoying a varied range of activities that we wouldn’t have been able to do at home.”

Full details of the activities on offer including booking information can be found on the Isle of Wight Family Information Hub webpage.

For more information about eligibility, please see the council’s holiday activities webpages.
