Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

The people, organisations and groups in Bembridge enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, and the Diary of the many events taking place in the village over the weekend is ample proof of this.  The Community Gardeners ensured the Memorial Garden and village planters were suitably festive.  From the hugely successful Street Fair, so ably organised by Jay Chapman, to the goody bags for the residents of care homes in the village lovingly prepared by the two WIs with contributions of drawings from the primary school, the Art & Craft Fair, the Flower Festival, concerts, an exhibition by the Heritage Society, Street Parties, events on the water (BHYC) and the beaches (RNLI & BSC), the weekend culminated in the lighting of the repaired beacon on Culver Down (thanks to Andrew Holman, Kevin Coghlan, the Scouts, National Trust, and many, many others).  It was a marvellous and memorable weekend, with the celebrations in Bembridge featured in the Jubilee coverage on the BBC.  While events were co-ordinated by the Parish Council, the success of the celebrations was due to the amazing community spirit and effort of residents.  Bembridge at its best!
